A driver failed to give way before changing lanes, colliding with the side of another vehicle late on Tuesday afternoon .
The occupants sustained minor injuries.
However, an altercation ensued, with those in the car that was hit heatedly venting at the other driver, Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said.
They were subsequently "told off" by police.

Johnathan Hill appeared in the Dunedin District Court on Monday, on charges of assaulting a person in a family relationship, escaping custody, aggravated assault and an unrelated charge of driving while disqualified.
He has been bailed to a Gore address on the condition he not travel north of Maheno unless for court.
Hill is also not allowed to drive, contact the complainant directly or indirectly, and is to refrain from violence.
He is due to reappear in court in Dunedin on January 30.
