Two people have been taken to Oamaru Hospital after a car hit a power pole on State Highway 1, near Hildethorpe, about 9am today.
The crash bought down high voltge power lines which set the car alight, making it difficult for emergency services to rescue the two ocupants.
A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with chest pains and smoke inhalation, along with a 23-year-old woman who had bruising from her seatbelt and abdominal pains.
