Friendly Bay Boat Society treasurer Mike Harris said although it was the society's fifth year organising the regatta, the event itself had been going for more than a decade ''in various forms''.
About six boats had entered for the racing catagories on the day, and about 10 boats had entered the Seagull racing for vintage outboard motor boats, Mr Harris said.
''The motors are pre-World War 2 to 1970s. There is quite a following around the place, and there is a bit of a racing scene here.''
Competitors had come from Oamaru, as well as a good contingent from Port Chalmers and Dunedin.
Although only four competitors entered the Birdman competition, jumping from Oamaru wharf, Port FM marketing manager Sue Fraser said the event had still raised $350 for the North Otago Search and Rescue marine unit.
Mrs Fraser said the event, which was won by Oamaru man Campbell Russell, would move back to its usual February slot next year.
