Sport academy set up

Future triathlon and duathlon stars could come out of North Otago in greater numbers through a new sports academy.

The North Otago Triathlon/Duathlon Academy has been set up by the Oamaru Multisport Club and is aimed at children of school age who want to excel in the sport.

Academy co-ordinator Adair Craik said on Thursday the aim was to cater for about 20 by providing coaching, training, and helping with equipment to compete to the best of their abilities.

The new academy, is being sponsored by Oamaru accounting firm McKenzie Craik.

"The club has created sessions which are available to athletes of all ages with cycling and swimming successfully being held. We now want to take triathlon to another level, adding running sessions and coaching locally," she said.
