By popular demand, Oamaru's Rainbow Run is back for a third year.
On October 17, hundreds of people wearing white clothing will be covered in bursts of colour as they walk, jog or run around a 5km circuit at Oamaru Racecourse.
At each kilometre mark a different hue of coloured powder will be thrown in the air by sponsors of the event and the participants will become a constantly evolving artwork.
The run has neither winners nor official times, but is a fun day out for individuals, families and groups, Sport Waitaki co-ordinator Kate Holland said.
More than 600 people took part in the inaugural Rainbow Run in 2013, and about 720 people registered for the event last year.
''So it's back by popular demand. The people who haven't done it really want to give it a go and everyone wants to do it again,'' Ms Holland said.
''It's a community event - it's run by locals, it's sponsored by local businesses and all the money we raise stays in the community. That's what really sets it apart from other similar events.''
Anyone could take part, Ms Holland said.
''The best thing about it is that it's not timed; you've got as long as it takes,'' she said.
''Lots of people walk - it's one of those events where if you can draw out the fun, you may as well keep going for longer.''
Last year's event raised more than $4000 for Sporting Chance - a charity offering financial assistance for Waitaki children to play sport.
In the lead-up to this year's event, the Waitaki Recreation Centre is holding a ''Couch to Rainbow'' training programme, for support, encouragement and training in a group environment to help people achieve their goal of completing the Rainbow Run.
