The property owner Naruedom Yaempongsa had only moved to the area in January and last week had discussions with the Waitaki District Council about building an off-street parking spot on his property.
The accident happened about 9.30am.
Mr Yaempongsa said his girlfriend rushed to the men's assistance after seeing the vehicle's airbags had deployed. The pair assured the residents they were fine but before Mr Yaempongsa could get the car occupants' details the two men ran off.
''We didn't think we should take their photos. We wanted to make sure they were OK. Next time I'll grab them. I did not expect them to run away because I had seen them,'' Mr Yaempongsa said.
He was waiting to find out from his insurance company whether it would cover damage to his vehicle and fence.
Neighbour Glenyce Cox, whose fence was also damaged in the accident, said there were often crashes in the area.
She believed driver error was the major factor in the nine crashes which had occurred in the 20 years she had lived at the address.
A police spokeswoman said it appeared no injuries were reported from the crash and police were still seeking the men who ran from the scene.
