When an Oamaru mother visited her local supermarket to do some grocery shopping with her children, little did she know the sign on the front window saying Lotto's "Big Winner Sold Here" was referring to her.
As she walked into the Oamaru New World, she thought "someone's been lucky", but gave it little more thought.
Once in the supermarket, she checked the family's Lotto tickets at the scanner as usual, and could not believe what flashed up.
"The kids tell me I let out a little squeak and my eyes got as big as saucers.
"I took the ticket up to the Lotto counter to get it double checked through the terminal ... to be told that we actually won," she said.
The mother, who wished to remain anonymous, had won $250,000 in Lotto's first division in the October 8 draw.
The family planned to use the winnings to pay off their mortgage.
"It will be so good to ring the bank and pay that much off."
New Zealand Lotteries chief executive Todd McLeay said Powerball First Division jackpotted again last weekend and would be worth an estimated $11 million this Saturday.
Lotto had also jackpotted and would be worth $2 million, he said.
