Waimate is planning to become a weekend market town, building on the success of its Sunday Farmers Market.
An arts and crafts market will be held on Saturdays starting from November 7 at the same venue as the Farmers Market, the Waimate District Council car park.
The new market is being overseen by Pro-Ject Waimate, and the plan is to shift the existing arts and crafts market from the Waimate Knitwear site to the council car park in a bid to lift its profile.
Pro-Ject Waimate co-ordinator Sheryl Frew said people had wanted to have stalls at the Farmers Market, but could not do so because of strict criteria, including the rule that all produce must be grown locally.
The arts and crafts market would be open to anyone.
The aim is to hold the new market on Saturday between 9am and noon, with the Farmers Market continuing on Sundays.
