A $180 million movie about the life of Jesus Christ could still go ahead, if resource consents for sets are approved.
Two film sets built at Elephant Rocks, near Duntroon, and Lake Benmore have been gathering moss for four years, after South Vineyard Ltd, the film company behind the planned Kingdom Come movie, had trouble financing it.
However, company solicitor Stephen Brown said applications to extend resource consents for the sets had been filed with the Waitaki District Council, and were going through the approval process.
"The directors still fully intend to complete the movie using that set. There have obviously been difficulties which they are looking to overcome, and they have applied to renew their consents." Filming could start relatively quickly if consents were approved.
Mr Brown declined to confirm if funding for the movie was in place.
A set of 100 facades and a jetty to be built at the Falstone reserve and a smaller set at Elephant Rocks, were granted 12-month resource consents in April 2008.
But both sets would have to be demolished if the council declines a resource consent extension.
