The ninth annual Tattooed and Proud show was held in Oamaru on Saturday, attracting a large crowd to the Oamaru Club.

More than 300 people packed into the hall to watch 116 competitors show off their body art in 29 different categories.

''It [was] a really good turnout,'' one of the event organisers, Ross Familton, said.

Organisers wanted the show to have a relaxed and laid back atmosphere.

''It's all about the tattoos and about creating a tattoo show that people want to come back to,'' Mr Familton said.

The event attracted competitors from all around the South Island.
