Anglicans are planning to celebrate in style the 150th anniversary of the church's presence in North Otago next week.
The St Luke's parish, which covers Oamaru and Maheno, was established in 1862, and parish vicar the Rev Tim Hurd said the event was a significant milestone in the story of the Anglican Church in the region.
He said St Luke's Church in Oamaru would host a Victorian-themed evening next Saturday, and added the Bishop of Dunedin, Dr Kelvin Wright, and the Dunedin Cathedral Choir would attend a Sunday service the next day to mark the occasion.
"This is a significant marker on the journey of the Anglican Church in North Otago.
"And while we're looking back and celebrating six generations of faithful, prayerful people, we look ahead, too.
"Thinking of the challenges faced and the vision shown in the past, we can be encouraged in facing our own real contemporary challenges."
This year also marked the centennial of the final stage of work to build St Luke's Church, he said.
