A truck overturned on State Highway 8 between Alexandra and Roxburgh in Central Otago this morning.
A police spokesman said a refrigerated truck full of frozen chickens rolled on Fruitlands-Roxburgh Rd about 5.25am.
The rolled truck was resting on its side near a barrier at Gorge Creek.
The truck was "mostly off the road".
St John spokesman Ian Henderson said the man sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Dunstan Hospital.
The man was the only person in the truck, he said.
The road is down to one lane.
A 50-tonne crane is on route to move the truck from the road and was expected to arrive at the scene about 10am.
When the crane arrives the road would be shut, the spokesman said.
