Authorities say traffic flows in Alexandra will not be disrupted during the town's annual blossom festival, on September 26 and 27, despite a major road reconstruction to establish a roundabout in the town centre.
Fulton Hogan Central won the tender for a $230,000 roundabout at the intersection of Centennial Ave and Tarbert and Kelman Sts, which was designed and fully funded by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
NZTA Central Otago area manager John Jarvis said minor work on the roundabout would start this week, although disruptive roadworks would not begin until September 28.
"A general set-up and a bit of kerbing will start this week, but there will be no work done to the actual road until after blossom festival weekend."
