Tourists hurt in head-on collision

A 30-year-old Frenchwoman has been charged with careless driving after she allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road near Tarras yesterday, causing a crash.

Senior Constable John Chambers, of Cromwell, said police attended a 10.30am crash on the top of Cluden Hill.

He said it appeared the woman, who was driving a Nissan car with a 24-year-old female passenger, also from France, started driving on the right-hand side of the road.

Their vehicle collided with a small rental campervan being driven in the opposite direction by a 31-year-old Slovenian man, whose 31-year-old female partner was in the front passenger seat.

Snr Const Chambers said the four tourists were taken to the Cromwell Medical Centre and treated for minor abrasions and bruising before being released.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Snr Const Chambers said the French driver would appear in the Alexandra District Court in March
