A musical revue of rock and opera songs from musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera and Rent is opening in Alexandra.
A cast of 25 will perform solos, duets and group numbers from 19 rock and opera musicals.
Director Matt van den Yssel said the revue was an opportunity for the musical society to explore new performances.
"It gives us a chance to have a crack at some of these bigger shows and bigger numbers that wouldn’t necessarily get a chance to be on the stage otherwise."
Mr van den Yssel and musical director Amy Delport had selected the songs and song order.
"Rather than being quite broad with it, which we often do with these kind of shows, we’ve been quite specific," he said.
It had been a "delicate balance" to decide the order of songs in the performance to not overwhelm the audience, he said.
"There’s not necessarily a story because the songs are all from different shows but it’s sort of taking [the audience] on a musical journey."
The cast had got behind the director’s vision —"I’m really pleased with where it’s at".
