This year, a 2008 Holden Calais owned by Brock Newman won the people’s choice award at the Cromwell Classic Car & Hot Rod Festival, with the irony not being lost on Southland Ford Falcon Club president Alistair Henderson, who said it created a bit of a stir.
Despite lower numbers because of other events in the region like the Gibbston Valley music festival, the event went well, he said.
A grocery hamper was awarded to the person who had travelled the furthest to attend the show; this year it was won by Bryan Turner, who travelled from Nelson.
Hundreds of different vehicles were on display, including an ex-military humvee and a Lancia Stratos replica.
"There were a few interesting and nice vehicles there," he said.
Mr Henderson could not remember the oldest vehicle on display but said there were a few from the 1930s in the show.
Newer vehicles included a Ferrari from Highlands Motorsport.
More than $2000 was raised for the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust from car entries and door sales, with a cheque presented on the day.
An additional $1500 was raised by raffling a powertool set donated by Placemakers Cromwell, with proceeds going to the Cromwell Lions and their medical helipad project, Mr Henderson said.
