Permission sought for large subdivision

Touchwoode Ltd has applied to the Central Otago District Council (CODC) to subdivide a large area of land in Cromwell into 79 allotments with areas of between 593sq m and 842sq m.

The land is between McNulty Rd and the extension of Stowell Dr.

Touchwoode Ltd directors are listed as Vance and Jenny Connelly, of Christchurch.

The land is in a rural resource area where subdivision of land below 4000sq m is a non-complying activity in the amended Proposed Central Otago District Plan. However, a variation to reduce the minimum allowable area to 500sq m is being considered.

Two further allotments with areas of between 12,050sq m and 8130sq m are to be created.

Allotments with an area greater than 4000sq m are considered a discretionary activity.

The owners of a Waenga Dr development were given permission to develop 12 sections of about 500sq m in a recent decision.

- The housing market is slowing down in Cromwell, with houses taking slightly longer to sell than at this time last year.

Real Estate Institute of New Zealand marketing spokesman Henry van der Velden estimated about 360 houses were for sale at present.

‘‘We may have more houses for sale but we also have a larger pool of houses in Cromwell than we did this time last year,'' he said.
