A man has died after being hit by a vehicle on State Highway 8, north of Alexandra.
In a statement, police said emergency services responded about 5.45pm after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.
A St John spokesman said the man was aged in his 20s.
The road remains closed between Clyde and Alexandra, with diversions in place via Airport Rd, Dunstan Rd and Springvale Rd.
The Serious Crash Unit was on the way to the scene, the police statement said.
