A full-day community workshop will be held in Lawrence on August 26 as work progresses on the Clutha Gold Trail.
Clutha district development manager Jill Borland said that following a series of successful workshops over the past nine months in anticipation of the trail's completion, the Lawrence and Beaumont communities were well on the way to developing their own long-term plan for the area.
However, she said it was now vital that the views of the wider community were also included, to ensure the plan was representative of the entire community.
"These workshops have set a platform for how the community sees itself developing into the future, and these views now need to be teased out and expanded,"she said.
The 73km trail, which will cost an estimated $5.5 million to create, was the first in Central Otago to receive funding under the New Zealand Cycle Trail project, getting $3.8 million from the Government.
A 20km section is planned in the Clutha district, between Beaumont and Lawrence; the remaining 53km will be in Central Otago, between Lake Roxburgh and Beaumont.
Last month, work began on the Beaumont-Lawrence leg, and work on the 8km section between Evans Flat and Lawrence is on track to be completed in the next month.
Ms Borland said the full-day community workshop on August 26 would follow a basic strategic planning process covering community values, imagining how the ideal Lawrence and Beaumont would look, and identifying key projects and priorities to achieve these objectives.
Workshop at Lawrence Golf Club, 9.30am to 5pm, Sunday, August 26.
