The Light Up Your Hat Competition is back as part of this year’s Light Up Winter event at Cromwell on August 3 and organisers are keen for entries.

Julie Morton, of Cromwell, is pictured with her 2022 competition entry of a Medusa-style hat, an example of the effort some have gone to in the past.

Event co-ordinator Anthea Lawrence said it was time for people to unleash their inner Mad Hatter for 2024.

"Whether it’s illuminating giant fruit, racing cars, bikes, or vintage treasures to name a few, now is the time," she said.

Participants are encouraged to design and decorate their hats with lights and wear them to Light Up Winter.

"We can’t wait to see this year’s entries. It’s such a fun way to get creative for all age groups, be a bit mad for a day, and connect as a community.”

The hat parade will take place on the main stage in the Anderson Park Rose Garden.

The competition has four age categories: 5 and under, 6-10, 11-15, and 16-plus, with ‘‘fantastic" prizes up for grabs.

To enter, register your hat online at www.lightupwinter.co.nz. Entries close on Friday, August 2 at 8pm.
