Museum general manager Maurice Watson said the meetings would focus on two aspects of the museum in a bid to provide "a more relevant service" to the public.
The first meeting on April 4 would focus on the science and natural history sector and ask people their ideas about the museum’s Bodkin Gallery and a new museum website. Parts of the Bodkin Gallery were 12 years old and needed "a refresh", and a new website was also needed, Mr Watson said.
The second meeting on April 6 would discuss ideas about human history, the goldfields, local history, heritage and genealogy.
Mr Watson said other meetings with stakeholder groups would be held following the public meetings. He would meet representatives of the education, tourism and arts sectors, and tangata whenua.
● The public meetings will be held at the museum at 8pm on April 4 and 7.30pm on April 6.
