Critical injuries in Lindis Pass crash

A person is in a critical condition after a serious vehicle crash in the Lindis Pass in Central Otago.

Six people sustained injuries in the crash.

An off-duty doctor told the Otago Daily Times that he and three other off-duty doctors came upon the scene and together they assisted the occupants of the vehicles.

A St John spokesman said three helicopters and two ambulances attended the crash.

The patient in a critical condition was flown to Dunedin Hospital. In another helicopter, a woman with serious injuries was flown to Dunedin Hospital.

In a third helicopter, two patients with moderate and serious injuries were flown to Dunedin Hospital.

Two patients with moderate injuries were taken by ambulance to Dunstan Hospital. The scene is now all clear, he said.

Emergency services at the scene have limited communication due to the location. It is raining in the area with poor road conditions.

The road is blocked which will cause traffic to back up and be delayed.

Police urge motorists to be patient to allow the services to deal with this crash. There is no immediate detour available for traffic.

A Fire spokeswoman said a person was trapped in a vehicle and was cut out by firefighters.
