Crash charges likely

Charges are likely to be laid in relation to a car crash near Cromwell on Saturday, after which a German tourist was flown to Dunedin Hospital with a broken leg.

Constable Doug Winter, of Cromwell, said the man, who was driving one of the vehicles involved, was still in hospital and had yet to be interviewed by police.

Const Winter said the two German passengers and the occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured.

• Cromwell police are also investigating crimes committed in the town early on Sunday, when two vehicles were broken into and items were stolen.

Const Winter said Holden and Nissan utility vehicles, parked on Inniscort St and Erris St, had windows smashed between 1am and 2am.

A watch and wallet were taken from the Holden vehicle, he said.
