Complex gets its first shop

The first four shops in a new complex at Clyde are open.

Touch Yarns owner Marnie Kelly has taken four of the shops for her Touch Yarns business and new gift shop Splurge.

The four shops' frontages are opened into one large retail space while the rear of the shops is being used for the export part of the operation.

The complex will also include a movie theatre, a restaurant and four duplexes.

Ms Kelly has moved her business of seven years from the site at Earnscleugh Rd in the hope she will be able to attract more foot traffic.

She was delighted with the new shops which she said were ‘‘fabulous and fit in really nicely with the whole ambience of the town''.

As well as the familiar Touch Yarns, the store offers merino/possum gloves and hats. The possum is sourced locally (from young lads who go out shooting) and the kid mohair and alpaca comes from around the South Island.

A new dye plant is now in operation in Alexandra, which allowed a lot more flexibility of colour for the wools, Ms Kelly said.
