A 42-year-old Central Otago man has been charged with causing the death of Poolburn man Richard Kohler in a crash near Alexandra.
Mr Kohler (54) was killed when his motorcycle and a truck collided at the intersection of Springvale Rd and State Highway 85 on February 28. Mr Kohler died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
A police spokesman confirmed yesterday a Central Otago man had been charged with causing the death of Mr Kohler by carelessly using a motor vehicle on Chatto Creek-Springvale Rd while driving on the wrong part of the road.
The charge was laid under the Land Transport Act and has a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment or a $10,000 fine.
A court spokesman said the Central Otago man was due to appear in the Alexandra District Court on August 29.
Mr Kohler’s family did not wish to comment about the charge.
