Gale Force, Shag Point
- Jan Kelly
Cloud shadows blowing out
to sea, bruise coloured, seem to
take islands with them, half
rocks slipping sideways in the
golden spume;
gulls are flying backwards,
banked against the wind
as if that was absolutely
what they intended to do.
We, here, footloose, feeling secure
in our shell, except that the car
lifts on its wheels and quivers,
as if about to start dancing.
