Cricket: Win for Green Island

Green Island stalwart Jeremy Scott smashed a six to help keep his side's national club championship prospects alive with a two-wicket win over Carisbrook-Dunedin in the Otago semifinal at Tonga Park yesterday.

Carisbrook-Dunedin limped to 161 all out, with Tony McEntyre top-scoring with an undefeated 34.

Rhys Phillips was also undefeated, reaching 31.

Jordan Sheed was the pick of the Green Island bowlers with two for 19 from 10 overs but Scott also bowled tightly.

He conceded just 13 runs from eight overs and had the delight of hitting the winning runs after Green Island made a late run in its chase.

At 81 for one Green Island had a tight grip on the fixture but lost four quick wickets, slumping to 101 for five.

Hamish Rutherford scored 34 before he was run out and Scott Simpson and Mark Joyce chipped in 29 and 24 respectively.

Despite some late wobbles Green Island had enough runs in the bank.

James Hogg was the best of the Carisbrook-Dunedin seamers with two for 20 from 10 overs.

• Senior franchise cricket was abandoned yesterday.

North West Bears and Eastern Beachers did not get started and the Saddle Hill Steamers-Central Knights was called off after four overs.
