Central Otago police are investigating recent burglaries at two holiday homes in Roxburgh.
About $8000 worth of household equipment was stolen from one home, while an adjoining property was burgled of items worth about $200.
Senior Constable Jape Wanoa, of Roxburgh, said the burglaries occurred between October 11 and 16, and were discovered during the weekend.
It appeared the two crimes were connected, he said.
"An item of interest from one of the homes was found in the other home. We are following a line of inquiry which is strengthening by the day, so we are optimistic of solving this crime," he said.
A 37-inch flat screen television was among items taken from one property, and Snr Const Wanoa said it was possible a vehicle was used to transport stolen items from the house.
Both property owners, one each from Invercargill and Dunedin, were insured, he said.
It appeared an insecure window was used to gain entry into one home, and at the other property a window and back door were "jemmied" open, Snr Const Wanoa said.
Forensic examination of the properties will begin today. rosie.manins@odt.co.nz
