Alexandra and Clyde's liquor ban has been extended to include Christmas and New Year's eves.
A report recommending the change was tabled at a Central Otago District Council meeting in Alexandra this week.
The ban covers the period from 10pm to 7am, starting on Thursday and ending on Monday each week.
Police support the ban, which was implemented in May last year.
A public opinion survey about the ban was conducted by the council in July.
Of those surveyed, 68% said the ban should continue, although the same number said it had made no difference to how safe they felt in the towns.
Sixty-three percent supported extending the ban to include Christmas and New Year's eves.
Almost 80% were aware the ban was in place, but just 21% knew the ban boundaries, and 16% knew how long it had been in force.
