An independent commissioner will hear submissions on the Central Otago District Council's proposal to relocate Omakau's water reservoir.
Four submissions were received by the council on its application, most of which conditionally supported the relocation.
CODC consents officer Felicity Smith said submitters suggested earth bunding or planting be used to screen the relocated reservoir tanks.
The council applied to itself for land-use consent to establish a water reservoir comprising six interconnected 30,000 litre tanks, on the ridge immediately to the southeast of the Omakau Golf Club.
Tanks would be visible and protrude on the skyline when viewed from roads in and around Omakau, as well as from some parts of the Otago Central Rail Trail.
Ms Smith said the submissions were received from Alexandra and Omakau residents, as well as one on behalf of the Central Otago Environmental Society.
A hearing for the application had been scheduled for July 29 at 10.30am in the council's Alexandra chambers, she said.
An independent commissioner will preside over the hearing.
The relocated reservoir should provide the town with better water pressure and an increased capacity for the future.
Last month, CODC planning and environment manager Louise van der Voort said the council's tanks situated behind the Omakau Catholic church were cracking and needed replacement.
Rather than upgrade the old tanks, which could not take any more water, the council decided to relocate the reservoir to part of the Omakau Recreation Reserve, she said.
Ms van der Voort said the proposed site was closer to the town, with better elevation, which would provide better water pressure.
