Sponsors get behind college

Cromwell College's local-business sponsorship drive is proving worthwhile, netting more than $150,000 in its first month.

Board of trustees chairman David Beaumont said more than half the funding required for the first year was in hand.

"We've confirmed just over $50,000 each year for the next three years. Our strike rate has been incredible.

"Nearly everyone we've sat down and talked to has signed up," he said.

Platinum, gold, silver, and bronze packages were first offered to businesses and individuals in early April.

Businesses in Cromwell, Alexandra, Queenstown, and Wanaka had become involved.

Dr Beaumont said two businesses were vying for the single platinum package, while 15 gold sponsorship deals had been confirmed and four silver.

Bronze or "Friends of Cromwell College" packages are available to individuals interested in supporting the school for an annual $300, or monthly payment of $25.
