Concerns about an upgraded intersection near Tarras have been allayed with the completion of development, New Zealand Transport Agency Central Otago area engineer John Jarvis says.
Road users and residents in the wider Tarras and Bendigo area had positively responded to the finished intersection of Maori Point Rd and State Highway 8 after initial concerns were raised about the road's changed alignment, Mr Jarvis said.
"We [the agency] haven't had any concerns . . . people have written to us praising the job. We had a meeting with the council and everyone appears to be very happy with it," he said.
In February, Tarras residents told some Central Otago District Council members the intersection, which was then under construction, was not safe.
At the time, Mr Jarvis said it was pre-emptive for people to judge the upgrade before it had been completed.
He said the former intersection was unsafe, and an upgrade was designed to improve visibility and safety of the intersection and surrounding road network.
Mr Jarvis said the agency had completed a safety audit of the intersection upgrade, which was without fault.
All temporary roadwork signs had been removed, he said.
"There's a wee bit of tidying up to do with bunding and vegetation which will go in there but basically it's all finished," he said.
