As a result, Canterbury will advance to the final by virtue of finishing higher on the table.
Canterbury was struggling at 108 for four after 26 overs when play ended.
Jacob Duffy took two for 24 and Neil Wagner and Nathan McCullum had a wicket apiece.
Wagner picked up the key wicket of the dangerous Peter Fulton, trapping him in front for two.
Otago won the toss at 1.15pm and promptly elected to bowl after a delayed start due to rain.
Central Districts secured a home final with a two-wicket win against Canterbury on Saturday and will staged the final at Pukekura Park on Saturday.
