Alexandra gets its place in the sun this summer with two one day games scheduled for the town in the middle of the holiday break.
The domestic playing schedule was released by New Zealand Cricket this morning and Alexandra will host two games, one against Auckland on December 27 and another three days later against Canterbury.
The town had lost out in hosting games for a few years over concerns about the pitch and the facilities at Molyneux Park, but a game played at the picturesque ground last season won rave reviews from both players and spectators.
In the 1980s the town used to host one day games and crowds of upwards of 3000 used to pack the park but spectator numbers slowly dropped away and questions arose about the pitch and the practice and changing facilities.
But some hard work by cricket followers in the town led to the ground being granted a twenty/20 game in the 2013 14 season.
That was followed by a one day game between Otago and Northern Districts in late December last year, played in front of a healthy crowd.
Otago won the game by 222 runs, the largest victory in one day cricket in New Zealand.
The twenty/20 competition known as the Super Smash will be played in November December and Otago will play four of its games at home, at University Oval.
Last year, it gave up rights for some of its home games as they were played under lights in other centres though an agreement with Sky Television.
The four home games will be played at the University Oval and will be played mid afternoon. Lights will not be trucked in, as they were last year at the Oval.
The finals of the Super Smash will be played at Yarrow Stadium in New Plymouth, normally a rugby only ground.
The four day Plunket Shield starts in mid October, although the first home game for the Volts is not until February, at Queenstown.
Invercargill gets to host a one day game and also a Plunket Shield match at Queens Park.
