Registrations for the 2009 Otago Goldfields Cavalcade are pouring in from throughout the country and overseas, organiser Roberta Laraman says.
Two of the nine trails were already booked out, and people would have to consider registering for the February event soon in order to secure placings on trails of their choice, she said.
The Tussock Creek Light Wagon trail and the Crown Rockers Walking trail comprise 75 and 55 people respectively.
Up to 500 people can take part in the cavalcade, set to take place in the lower South Island during the last week of February.
Mrs Laraman said people from as far away as Stewart Island planned to walk a trail to Waikaka, north of Gore, where all cavalcade riders and walkers will gather to celebrate their week.
It will be the 17th cavalcade, and already people from Australia, Hong Kong, and the United States have signed up.
"We've got a lot of North Islanders as well this year, and of course a lot of local support from people in the South Island," Mrs Laraman said.
McNeill Drilling donated $5000 to subsidise entry fees.
