Pioneer Maniototo businessman Mosey Hanrahan is long gone, but his legacy will live on now that a Ranfurly street has been named after him.
Hanrahan Lane was officially opened recently after a competition to name the previously unnamed byway.
Mr Hanrahan, who was born at Naseby in 1872, owned a shop in Ranfurly's main street and was a well-known barber, tobacconist, and newsagent who helped Ranfurly's commercial growth get under way.
His grandson, Michael Dowling, of Ranfurly, submitted the street's winning name to the Maniototo Community Board along with fellow resident and Hanrahan descendant Francie Morrow.
More than 60 of Mr Hanrahan's family members attended the opening after travelling from Auckland, Palmerston North, Marlborough, Ashburton, Invercargill, Dunedin, and Christchurch.
Ranfurly's volunteer radio station, Burn 729am, organised the street name competition and unveiling.
