If you are interested an evening of live music with ’70s folk influences, the local gallery has what you need.

Whanganui duo Heti and Hope will be serving up their balladry in an intimate setting at the Eastern Southland Gallery on Thursday night.

Singer Heti Hope and musician Adie Higginson have been partners in both life and music for over 30 years.

Ms Hope has been making melodies since she can remember and is influenced by fellow songwriters Patti Smith, Carole King as well as rock outfits such as Pink Floyd and Van Morrison.

Mr Higginson accompanies his partner’s haunting vocals with a range of instruments, including guitar and violin.

The result is a sound that evokes summer days, free love and sepia tones of the ’70s.

The touring band’s performance was organised by Arts on Tour NZ, who are focused on bringing outstanding performances to rural areas and smaller centres across the motu.

Folk music is a genre based around different cultures and communities sharing their stories.

Let Heti and Hope’s tales of humanity, body, soul and spirit wash over you tomorrow night, Thursday March 13, at 8pm.

Tickets are $25, $20 for members and $5 for students.
