Bluff whānau challenge ‘more than just an event’

The Try-Whānau Festival returns to Motupōhue packed with family-filled fun.

Bluff’s free hauora (healthy) event features a triathlon-style challenge designed to inspire participation rather than competition.

Awarua Whanau Services marketing and communications and resource development lead Hana Bryant said people taking part could walk, bike or paddle their way through the event, with options tailored to suit all fitness levels.

"It's an opportunity for whānau to bond, set personal goals, and cheer each other on while having a blast."

The Try-Whānau Festival is "about encouraging whānau to give new activities a go while enjoying the beautiful environment Motupōhue has to offer".

In addition to the main challenge, there will be plenty of activities including games for tamariki, food stalls, music and entertainment to keep everyone engaged and entertained.

"Try-Whānau is more than just an event; it’s a kaupapa that promotes hauora health and wellbeing," Ms Bryant said.

"By stepping outside your comfort zone, trying new activities, and spending quality time with your whānau, you’re not only improving your tinana (body) but also strengthening your wairua (spirit) and whanaungatanga (family relationships)."

People could tackle the course as a whānau, as a team or as individuals or just enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and simply show support, she said.

"The swim will be done in the Bluff swimming pool, so everyone is capable of doing it because they can stand in the water.

"It’s an all-abilities event so whānau can do this because it’s catered for the whole family in mind.

"Karahwhiua (give it a go) whanau."
