Charges laid over assault

A Dunedin man will appear in court after allegedly leaving another person seriously injured in North Dunedin yesterday.

The 33-year-old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court today.

Police received a report at 4.35pm that an assault had occurred in Great King St, a police spokeswoman said.

One person was taken to hospital in a serious condition, she said.

Police arrested one person and spoke with both parties to establish what had occurred.

Eight police vehicles, including that of a dog handler, were seen outside an address close to the Alhambra-Union Rugby Football Club North Ground.

Yelling and a barking dog could be heard coming from the address.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said

an ambulance and a first responder unit were sent to the scene.

A witness from a nearby business said they had seen a
person taken from the
passenger seat of a car and putin an ambulance about 5pm.

They said assaults often happened at the property.
