A Dunedin man has appeared in court after allegedly leaving another person seriously injured in North Dunedin yesterday.

The 33-year-old appeared in Dunedin District Court this morning, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police received a report at 4.35pm that an assault had occurred in Great King St, a police spokeswoman said.

One person was taken to hospital in a serious condition, she said.

Police arrested one person and spoke with both parties to establish what had occurred.

Eight police vehicles, including that of a dog handler, were seen outside an address close to the Alhambra-Union Rugby Football Club North Ground.

Yelling and a barking dog could be heard coming from the address.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said an ambulance and a first responder unit were sent to the scene.

A witness from a nearby business said they had seen a person taken from the passenger seat of a car and put in an ambulance about 5pm.

They said assaults often happened at the property.

Bail was opposed and he was remanded into custody, and is due to appear in court on December 3.
