Making the perfect hot chip is all about the "shake, bang, and hang" technique, according to award-winning chip maker Leighton Tekanawa, of Alexandra.
Mr Tekanawa's restaurant and takeaway business Oscar's won a regional award in the That's Life Best Chip Shop Competition, for making the tastiest chips south of, and including, Timaru.
Oscar's chips are so good, regular customers from Clyde and Cromwell travel to the shop.
Chip samples which contained less than 11% fat qualified for the competition.
