The ANZ Championship round-robin phase will be completed on Monday, so it is time to think about who might make the all-star team. Netball writer Adrian Seconi casts an early vote.
Goal shoot
Who else but our own Jhaniele Fowler-Reid?
The Jamaican international has won three golden bibs this season for her efforts for the Steel. She is the second leading scorer with 488 goals from 519 attempts. At 1.98m, she is the tallest player in the competition.
Her skills in the air defy belief and her ball handling is first class - she seldom drops the ball. There are a lot of good players in this position but she is simply the best.
Goal attack
Mwai Kumwenda is just too good to leave out. She is the leading scorer, she is deadly accurate, she is quick around the court and, at 1.83m, better suited to goal attack than at goal shoot, where she has played for the Tactix.
The Mystics' Maria Tutaia has a stronger passing game, though, and is more prepared to shoot from distance. She would arguably be a better complement for Fowler-Reid.
Wing attack
Grace Rasmussen has been the surprise package and may have played her way back into a Silver Ferns bib.
Her circle feeding has been a highlight and a key reason why the Magic has defied so many of its critics. She has five golden bib awards this season. Only Madison Robinson has more with six.
Centre
Speedy. Classy. Dynamic. Accurate. Experienced. The Vixens' Madison Robinson drops back to centre to make room for Rasmussen. She has been named in the official all-star team for the past two seasons and bound to be again.
Wing defence
A toss up between the Mystics' Julie Corletto and Joline Henry from the Pulse. In the end we went with Henry, who just has such fantastic vision and a bullet pass, and disrupts a lot of ball.
Goal defence
There are some great defenders in the league and it felt wrong leaving out wonderful players such as Casey Kopua and Leana de Bruin from the starting side.
But we did. Firebirds captain Laura Geitz gets the goal defence bib. She leads the competition in deflections and intercepts and is in the top 10 for rebounds.
Goal keep
Is there a better player in the competition than Geva Mentor? The short answer is no. Her formidable defence is the reason the Vixens are at the top of the table after 12 rounds.
The Melbourne-based team has let in just 527 goals at an average of 43.91. By comparison, the Steel has conceded 745 goals at 62.08. This is difference of more than 18 goals. Mentor for MVP.
Bench
Maria Tutaia (Mystics), Caitlin Bassett (Fever), Kimberlee Green (Swifts), Casey Kopua (Magic), Leana de Bruin (Magic).
