Cricket: St Hilda's runners-up

St Hilda's Collegiate has finished second at the NZCT secondary schoolgirls tournament in Palmerston North this week.

The team won three of its five games and all-rounder Caitlin Blakely and batsman Polly Inglis were standout performers.

Blakely was the tournament's joint leading wicket-taker with seven wickets and the second leading scorer with 158 runs. Her team-mate Inglis topped the list with 174 runs.

Havelock North defended the title it won last year, winning all five games including a 54-run win over St Hilda's on Wednesday.

St Hilda's made a bright start to the competition, beating Rangi Ruru Girls' School by 65 runs on Monday and St Kentigern College by six wickets the following day.

The team had a double setback on Wednesday, losing to Wellington Girls' College by nine wickets in the morning and to the champions in the afternoon.

The Dunedin school finished on a high note with a 10-run win over Waikato Diocesan School.
