Curator Brett Cotter said he was on a mission to bring the best cycling short films from around the world together for locals to enjoy.
The collection of cycle-related pictures now on tour included a film about Otago Central Rail Trail volunteer Ken Gillespie by film-maker Clare Toia-Bailey, of Alexandra.
"An uplifting film that celebrates a humble volunteer whose community spirit is inspiring, and so are the majestic winter views of the trail where he lives in rural heartland Central Otago."
Another Otago film-maker featured this year was Richard Sidey, formerly of Wanaka, who explored interior Iceland on an epic bike-packing odyssey, Mr Cotter said.
Other highlights included a 74-year-old bicicletta rider in a picture-postcard Tuscany, and the pursuit of a first descent on the gnarly lines of Dillon Cone in the rugged coastal Kāikoura ranges.
"These short films are a great reminder of why we love to ride our bike, with stories that captivate us, stories that make us think, and most importantly of all, inspiring us to get out and ride," Mr Cotter said.
- The Big Bike Film Night is screening at Rialto Cinemas on Monday, May 22 at 7pm.
