The Otago Model Engineering Society is opening its clubrooms this Saturday and Sunday for a fundraising weekend for people dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle.
Society member Gary Douglas said the clubroom would be filled with displays including working model engines in miniature, as well as two large railway layouts.
Outside there will be the chance to enjoy a train ride on a scale-model railway for a donation, or watch a flotilla of craft on the club’s pond.
The club is offering free entry but is encouraging visitors to give to the Red Cross.
The members came up with the idea it would be good to do something for people affected by the floods after Cyclone Gabrielle.
"If we got a major flood in South Dunedin like they got, could you imagine what it would be like — the chaos."
The club decided to fundraise for the Red Cross because it had acted as a first responder, helping people dealing with the devastation caused by flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle.
"The Red Cross is one of the organisations that locally would be able to help in that situation," Mr Douglas said.
Images showing some of the scenes the Red Cross encountered and the work they did after the flooding would be displayed in the clubrooms during the weekend.
