Show co-ordinator Trevor Buchanan said he was looking forward to the event, which was billed as Dunedin's biggest model train exhibition.
There will be about 21 displays at the show including new displays from Dunedin, Christchurch, Timaru and Invercargill model makers.
One of the more inventive categories is tea cup dioramas, which with no rules to follow, enables people to take liberties with their designs.
This enables participants to let their creativity run wild, transforming ordinary tea cups into extraordinary miniature worlds.
A table will be available to the public for trading second-hand items.
The show is open from 9.30am to 4pm both days.
