A management plan that details the use and future options for the eight parks and reserves in the Teviot Valley is out for public consultation.
The draft Roxburgh Ward Reserve Management Plan was adopted by the Roxburgh Community Board last week.
It sets out a range of objectives, such as allowing public access on to parks at all times, and related policies to give effect to those objectives.
Other objectives include allowing the parks to be used for events; allowing exclusive use of parts of parks (for the likes of bowling clubs), allowing permanent or temporary commercial use of parks, and others relating specifically to the likes of leasing land, licences and occupation agreements.
The eight parks and reserves in the ward cover almost 110ha and have varying uses.
The 84.72ha Roxburgh Recreation Reserve near the southern end of the town, for example, includes sports fields, a golf course, picnic and playground facilities, walking tracks, the war memorial and a 10ha forested area.
The 0.1ha Lake Onslow Reserves which are on the north and south sides of the outlet arm of Lake Onslow are, in comparison, hardly used except by the adjoining landowner, who grazes stock on them, the plan says.
No future options noted in the plan for some parks, but for others, options include disposing of some land.
Options for the 5.03ha Lake Roxburgh Village Recreation Reserve, which is next to the dam, include disposal of the hall that is on the reserve, as well as part of the land. Another option is to review linkages and use of the reserve for the Clutha Gold Trail and similar events.
A detailed development plan has been sought for the 14.68ha Pinders Pond Reserve, on the eastern bank of the Clutha River, near Millers Flat.
The plan says it is a well-used area, particularly in summer and conditional freedom camping is allowed but there are minimal amenities.
The management plan is required under The Reserves Act 1977.
Public consultation is open for two months.
