The vehicle’s owner believes it was randomly targeted.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said Fenz received multiple calls to the fire in Dunorling St near the intersection with Bringans St about 4.20am.
Firefighters found the vehicle, a 2002 Ford Courier, ablaze but quickly brought the fire under control.
Owner Mike Payne said he was one of the callers and had been awoken by the sound of the front passenger-side tyre exploding.
Upon investigating he had found the vehicle, which was parked in the street outside his home, engulfed in flames.
"It was full-on."
Fanned by wind, the blaze had also threatened his campervan parked in front of his truck.
The campervan, which he moved while the fire was at its peak, was damaged, the fibreglass at the rear blistering and delaminating and the tail-light lenses and the plastic fittings on bicycle racks melting.
"I’ll be making two insurance claims," Mr Payne said.
The Dunorling St barbecue area and boat ramp at the Clutha River at the end of the street attracted "all sorts" of people at night, he said, and he believed his vehicle had been targeted at random.
A police spokeswoman confirmed police were investigating.
