Members of the public found the body of missing Roxburgh man Rian Williamson in Te Mata au ki uta/Clutha River near Teviot and Millers Flat on Monday, February 7, several days after he had last been seen.
Iwi from Ngai Tahu ki Murihiku me Otakou and police met near the Millers Flat bridge for a blessing today.
Kaumātua Darren Rewi advised that the restriction applies to the river 200 metres either side of the bridge for seven days.
No food gathering and or swimming should be carried out on this stretch of water until February 23.
"Our condolences go out to the whānau of the deceased and all those affected by this tragedy," Mr Rewi said.
