But the match between Albion and North East Valley at Tonga Park did go ahead and it produced a tense finish, Albion winning by one
wicket.
Valley slumped to 106 for six but recovered to post 174.
Thorn Parkes made 50 from 57 balls and Nic Brosnahan chipped in with a valuable 30.
Ricki Allan (four for 18) and Matt West (three for 18) did most of the damage for
Albion.
Former Otago player Josh Tasman-Jones set a nice platform for the Eagles with 39 at the top, and Tim Ford held his nerve with 40 not out.
But a flurry of wickets saw victory almost slip away from Albion.
The side was 106 for three and cruising but crashed to 166 for nine.
Harry McDonald took three for 31 and Hunter Kindley claimed one for 10 in a frugal eight-over spell for Valley.
The premier twenty20 tournament was scheduled to begin on Friday night but all three games were abandoned.
-The Otago Sparks’ one-dayer against the Northern Brave in Hamilton on Saturday was also abandoned without a ball bowled, and the points were shared.
The Sparks’ next assignment is a one-dayer against Northern at the University of Otago Oval on Saturday.
